Our personal injury specialists secured damages for a family following the death of an 89 year old grandfather who was killed in a road traffic collision.
Liability for the accident was admitted by the other driver’s insurance company early on.
Although the elderly man’s life expectancy at the age of 89 was relatively short, we were able to establish that his wife was both financially and, to an extent, personally dependent on him even though she was a full time resident at a nursing home. She was able to make a significant dependency claim.
An additional dependency claim was brought on behalf of the deceased’s grandson as he had been helped by his grandfather with payment of his school fees, and would have continued to expect help with his education fees as he went on to university.
Further claims were made on behalf of the estate to include the cost of the funeral, the grant of probate, the damaged vehicle and vets’ bills for the dogs injured in the accident.
The High Court approved a settlement exceeding £130,000.
