Early discharge following appendicectomy

We are advising on behalf of a minor who underwent an operation to remove her appendix and who was discharged from hospital the following day, notwithstanding concerns her mother expressed that our client had a high temperature and was feverish.

She remained unwell throughout the following week or so and her GP arranged her re-admission to hospital, when it was found that she had an abscess at the site where the appendix had been removed.

She experienced considerable pain and suffering throughout that time which we argued could have been avoided had she not been wrongly discharged with a fever and instead been properly monitored and treated in hospital.
