Failure to diagnose infection following carpal tunnel surgery
Our client had been suffering pain in his hand and wrist and found his grip affected and, therefore, his work as a plumber. He was advised to undergo routine carpal tunnel release surgery.
He already suffered from psoriasis so the hospital knew he was vulnerable to infection. After the operation, he experienced intense pain and went back to the hospital, where he was examined and the same dressing reapplied. He had, however, contracted an infection that was not identified and consequently spread such that he needed emergency treatment.
The damage to his hand stopped him returning to work for several months. Our medical negligence solicitors successfully claimed against the hospital for failing to suspect, investigate and treat the infection earlier.
