Following successful surgery in which a large, benign tumour was removed from our 8-year old client's brain by frontal craniotomy, she was transferred to the neurology ward.
She had been able to understand and follow commands when she came round from the surgery, but suffered a combination of hypotension and hypoxia whilst recovering on the ward.
The care she received was alleged to be substandard because the hypertension and hypoxia went undetected and led to severe brain damage, such that she was in a worse position than she had been when she first came round from the surgery.
