Mismanagement of suspected ectopic pregnancy

Our client was referred to hospital with suspected ectopic pregnancy. Ultrasound was inconclusive and pregnancy hormone levels should have been re-tested, but were not.

As a result, a diagnosis was made of ectopic pregnancy that was wrong. She underwent laparoscopy, which revealed a healthy intra-uterine pregnancy, not an ectopic one. The laparascopy would never have been needed had proper tests and investigations been carried out.
