Patient’s last viable embryo transferred to another woman

One of our solicitors acted for a woman who received treatment at the IVF Wales clinic in Cardiff. She attended the clinic for transfer of her last remaining frozen embryo.

Instead of being led into the operating theatre, she was taken to an office where she was informed that there had been an accident in the laboratory, her embryo had been mixed up with another patient’s and transferred to that patient in error. The patient had aborted the pregnancy.

Our clinical negligence specialist obtained disclosure of key documents from the clinic in order to explain to the woman and her partner how the mix-up occurred and recovered an out of court settlement for the couple.
