Following a series of outstanding rankings for Penningtons Manches Cooper in the 2023 edition of Chambers UK, a number of members of the firm’s private wealth sector group have now been recognised in the latest edition of the Chambers High Net Worth Legal Guide. In total, 18 individual lawyers have been ranked, with collective recognition for five teams.

The Chambers High Net Worth Legal Guide is a leading directory comprised of the best professional advisers for international private wealth, who understand the complex needs of HNW individuals. Rankings are based on real interviews, client satisfaction indices, peer knowledge, and independent market sources, and take into account a range of criteria, from legal ability, client service and team depth, to commercial awareness and organisational efficiency.

In the category, ‘Family/Matrimonial Finance: Ultra High Net Worth’, the family law team, described as offering ‘a quality service’, was ranked in band 2, with individual recognition for six lawyers: Jane Craig, James Stewart, Anna Worwood, Elizabeth Carson, Rebecca Carlyon, and Emma Willing. In particular, James Stewart – ‘a force of nature in the family law world’, received a prestigious band 1 ranking, with Jane Craig – ‘an incredible mentor’ – achieving the rank of ‘Senior Statespeople’.

For private wealth law, the firm has been ranked in band 1 for ‘Guildford and surrounds’, and band 3 for ‘London’, the teams described as having ‘exemplary technical knowledge’ and being ‘professional, knowledgeable and customer-centric’ respectively. Across the two teams, there was recognition for eight lawyers individually: Clare Archer, James D’Aquino, Laura Dadswell, Ryan Myint, Tristan Smale, Elizabeth Nicholas, Hannah Gearey, and Lucy Edwards.

Meanwhile, for contentious private client work, the firm has been ranked in band 2 for ‘The South’, with praise for its ‘really impressive technical knowledge… they excel at explaining the issues in a clear and concise manner’. Head of practice Michael Cash was ranked individually in both ‘London (Firms)’ – band 4 – and ‘The South’ – band 1 – for being ‘a formidable litigator’ with ‘immense experience’ – ‘he is phenomenal’.

The firm has also been ranked in band 2 for ‘Immigration: High Net Worth Individuals’, with praise for its ‘very clear, very helpful communication all through the process’ and for being ‘fully able to handle complex matters’. Both head of practice, Pat Saini, and Hazar El-Chamaa were also ranked individually.

Lastly, there was also individual recognition for shipping partner Sarah Allan, newly ranked this year for her work with yachts and superyachts. One client commented, ‘By understanding the best interests of clients, she defends them without getting bogged down by details. She is capable of great things.’
