Penningtons Manches Cooper’s India group, led by partners Phillip D’Costa and Pat Saini, has been recognised as a ‘Key Player’ in the India Business Law Journal’s (IBLJ) Top Foreign Law Firms 2024 report.
The publication, which is now in its 18th year, draws on analysis of over 600 law firms from across the globe, to rank the top international law firms for India-related work. The results are based on meticulous research, editorial experience, and extensive consultation with corporate counsel and Indian law firms.
This result moves the ‘dynamic and blossoming practice’ up a tier from last year’s report, with reference to its ‘practice specialisations, outstanding delivery, and knowledge of the subtleties and nuances of doing business in India’.
In particular, the team was described as ‘trusted counsel for UK companies seeking a footprint in India’, with Mahesh Agarwal, managing partner at Agarwal Law Associates, commenting: “With deep experience and knowledge of India … they are best suited to handle any complex issue which has any connection with the country.”
Agarwal also made a special mention of Phillip D’Costa, who, he says, “has mastered the art of understanding clients’ needs and delivering results.”
In June of this year, Phillip was also named in the IBLJ’s International A-list for 2024, which recognises the top international lawyers with ‘a profound understanding of India’s intricacies, the needs of Indian clients, and… strong connections within the Indian legal community’.
Those ranked in the International A-list must have been nominated by either lawyers at Indian law firms, or in-house counsel in India and around the world. Lawyers at non-Indian law firms were not permitted to make nominations.
