Penningtons Manches Cooper’s Piraeus office appoints maritime litigation specialist

Top 50 law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper has boosted its Piraeus office with the recruitment of partner Richard Johnson-Brown, a litigator specialising in the shipping and maritime sectors.

Richard – who is dual qualified in Greece and England & Wales, and trained in London and in Piraeus – has built a highly successful practice in Greece, advising both domestic and international clients on a range of complex matters. He joins Penningtons Manches Cooper having trained at Holman Fenwick Willan and spent a decade in their Piraeus office.

Richard brings more than 15 years’ of extensive experience with clients including ship owners, yacht and superyacht owners, shipyards, banks, charterers, P&I clubs and H&M underwriters.

His expertise spans a wide variety of shipping and yachting disputes – including shipbuilding, ship sale, charterparty and bill of lading disputes – as well as collisions and groundings.

Within the past year, Richard has won two London arbitrations, one for an oil major and another for a yacht buyer. He has also represented a Greek commodities trader in the High Court. Richard speaks English, Greek, French and German and is an active member of the LMAA and the Army & Navy Club in London.
