We recently acted for a client who was on a skiing holiday in France. She was descending a blue run and there were signs on the piste advising skiers to slow down. Despite this a snowboarder travelling at high speed struck her from behind.
Our client was thrown into the air and landed on her side causing a broken pelvis and hip joint. She also sustained an injury to her knee and a haematoma behind her bladder. Although the third party skier was based in Holland, we managed to successfully pursue a claim against his insurers in the courts of England and Wales.
This resulted in a final damages award of approximately £40,000 plus an additional £9,200 for the travel insurers' outlay.
