We acted for two girls who were on a teaching holiday in Botswana, which was arranged by a tour operator. On their last night, their bungalow was broken into by a gang of young men. The girls locked themselves in their bedroom, but the intruders hacked through the door with a knife and a crowbar. All four men had knives, and both girls were injured in the ensuing struggle.
We successfully pursued a claim against the tour operator in this jurisdiction. At trial, the judge held that the tour operator failed to comply with its duty to provide the girls with adequate and safe accommodation. They were awarded a total sum of £19,000 in compensation.
