Penningtons Manches Cooper boosts growing Birmingham office with leading intellectual property lawyer

Posted: 19/10/2020

The Birmingham office of top 50 law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper, established last year as the firm’s first location outside of London and the South East, has announced another new appointment.

Dr Lisa Page, a highly experienced intellectual property lawyer with a specialism in the life sciences sector joins as an associate director. Her client base spans pharmaceutical and medical device companies, biotech start-ups and spin-outs, as well as universities and other research-based organisations. She advises on all stages of the drug and device development pathway as well as on multi-party collaborations and spin-outs and has particular experience in the development stages of new products.

Lisa has a PhD in molecular microbiology and had direct practical experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry before re-training as a solicitor. Her scientific background gives her a deep understanding of the issues facing the life sciences sector and means she is able to speak clients’ language when advising on development programmes and the exploitation of life science technologies. She has held a number of in-house legal roles, including at the Energy Technologies Institute and Coventry University.

She was also recently appointed director of the West Midlands Health Technology Cluster Organisation, working alongside Executive Chair David Kidney. The cluster was recently set up to further strengthen Greater Birmingham and Solihull’s life sciences and healthcare sectors, which already boast a number of leading businesses and facilities of national and international significance.

Alongside intellectual property and life sciences, Lisa has a separate practice focusing on competition law as it applies to research and development, an area of potential change after Brexit.

Lisa’s appointment follows that of four housing corporate and governance specialist lawyers, led by partner Gemma Bell, who joined the Birmingham office in July.

Partner Joel Kordan, who founded Penningtons Manches Cooper’s Birmingham office, commented:

“Lisa is a fantastic addition to our expanding team here in the Midlands. Her insight and expertise is coveted by clients across the life sciences sector and more widely in research-based organisations, and is highly regarded by senior figures and key stakeholders in her area of practice. Her strong regional network will be a great asset. We’re delighted to welcome her to our expanding team.”
