2023 legal directories full of praise for Penningtons Manches Cooper’s ‘first-class’ advice and ‘brilliant understanding’ of the law

The 2023 editions of legal directories The Legal 500 and Chambers UK have ranked Penningtons Manches Cooper highly for its quality across a range of practice areas, from services for businesses and private individuals, to its sector expertise. This comes as the firm has also been recognised in The Times Best Law Firms list 2023, which highlights the top legal practices in England and Wales.

Considered leading authorities on the current legal market in the UK, the directories’ extensive research draws on client testimonials, endorsements from fellow lawyers, and feedback from third-party experts to produce a thorough report of the highest quality law firms in the country. These latest results represent a continuation of the consistently strong rankings that Penningtons Manches Cooper has achieved over recent years, and which the firm is proud to maintain.

In The Legal 500, Penningtons Manches Cooper has been listed as a top tier firm in 10 practice areas, with recommendations in a further 54. The corporate team has been ranked in band 1 for its full service approach delivered by lawyers who are ‘very experienced and very straightforward to deal with’, as has the IT and telecoms practice with its ‘strong fintech offering’ and ‘international scope’. The employment team, praised for its ‘exceptional client care’ and for being ‘proactive, knowledgeable, hard-working and empathetic’ is also top ranked, and is joined by the real estate team, which offers ‘outstanding service’. Rising to band 1 for 2023 are both the contentious and non-contentious private client teams, the latter described as having ‘very broad capabilities and diverse knowledge’ – ‘nothing is beyond them’. The family team, meanwhile, has maintained its band 1 ranking, with its ‘combined experience’ making it a ‘tour de force’ with a ‘reputation for excellence’ that is ‘well-earned’. Finally, there was praise for the ‘absolutely fantastic’ clinical negligence and personal injury team, an ‘exceptional team of undoubted specialists’. In total, 146 of the firm’s lawyers are mentioned by name for their ‘standout contribution to respective practices’, with 32 elite ‘Leading Lawyers’, 16 ‘Next Generation Partners’, and 17 ‘Rising Stars’.

Chambers UK 2023 lists Penningtons Manches Cooper as a band 1 firm in 8 practice areas, with recommendations in a further 28. The ‘leading corporate practice’ was commended for its ‘broad experience and knowledge’, with the ‘impressive’ intellectual property team also noted for its ‘in-depth knowledge’ and ‘timely and well-analysed responses’. Both the real estate and property litigation teams were ranked in band 1, with the former described as ‘very helpful and knowledgeable and clear in the advice they give’ and the latter a ‘respected and versatile team’ that has ‘incredible levels of expertise’ and ‘fully understand[s] the client’s needs’. The ‘stellar’ family law team was also recognised for being ‘very professional, detailed-oriented and provid[ing] sensible and realistic advice’ – ‘they’re smart, hard-working and really know their stuff’. Lastly the ‘distinguished’ clinical negligence team and ‘leading’ personal injury teams were described by clients as ‘down to earth, committed, and true specialists’ as well as ‘thorough, highly knowledgeable and precise’, with one client saying, ‘I cannot speak highly enough of the level of expertise shown’. In total, Chambers UK ranked 78 lawyers from Penningtons Manches Cooper across a range of specialisms, with 13 listed in band 1.

Complementing these excellent results is the firm’s recognition in the latest edition of the annual Times Best Law Firms list, which is based on votes and recommendations from fellow lawyers. The commercial dispute resolution, commercial property, employment, family, real estate litigation, and personal injury and clinical negligence teams were all specifically commended for their work.
