The corporate team at Penningtons Manches Cooper has advised UK-based 3D mesh software provider, PointFuse, on the sale of its core IP and technology to American multinational software corporation, Autodesk.
PointFuse transforms point cloud information into user-friendly segmented 3D mesh models. These models are a crucial component of a comprehensive workflow that employs reality capture data, enhancing decision-making processes across various projects and sectors. Autodesk completed the purchase of certain PointFuse IP and commercially available offerings in March 2024, and is planning to integrate this technology into its growing portfolio.
The Penningtons Manches Cooper team was led by corporate partner Richard Wrigley, with support from associate Hayfa Hazem. Further support was provided by IP, IT and commercial partner Joanne Vengadesan, and associates Thomas Kirby and Alison Ross.
Steve Salmon, CEO of PointFuse, said: “We are very excited to see the integration of the PointFuse technology into Autodesk’s technology, to revolutionise the way BIM models will be generated from complex laser scanning data. I’d like to thank Richard Wrigley and the wider team at Penningtons Manches Cooper for their expertise and for their unwavering support in helping bring this transaction to a successful conclusion.”
Richard Wrigley said: “We are delighted to have advised the dynamic and promising PointFuse on this strategic sale to Autodesk. Bringing these two companies together marks a significant transaction in the technology sector.”
