Personal injury partner elected as chair of the American Association for Justice’s International Practice Section at the AAJ 2024 Annual Convention

Posted: 26/07/2024

Last week Warren Collins, personal injury partner at Penningtons Manches Cooper, achieved the prestigious recognition of being elected as co-chair of the American Association for Justice’s (AAJ) International Practice Section.

The AAJ is the world’s largest plaintiff trial lawyers association, with over 56,000 members globally, promoting justice and fairness for injured persons and safeguarding victims’ rights.

It convenes twice annually in the United States, drawing legal professionals from around the world to discuss the latest developments in trial advocacy and specialised topics. This year’s convention was held in Nashville, Tennessee, and attended by over a thousand delegates.

As one of the AAJ’s 20 practice sections, the International Practice Section functions as a network allowing members to connect, share ideas, technical skills, and resources, and ultimately work to improve the law and legal procedures involved in international legal disputes.

This appointment is a testament to Warren’s expertise in the area of global personal injury claims, with over 30 years of experience in catastrophic injury cases spanning Europe, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, and, in particular, the US. He is a member of the New York City Bar Association and the only UK solicitor to be admitted to the US-based National Trial Lawyers Top 100, the Melvin Belli Society (of pre-eminent personal injury lawyers) and the National Crime Victim Bar Association.

In addition to his election, Warren also spoke at the conference on UK/US cross-border claims for UK claimants bringing claims in US courts. His session was one of the most popular over the four-day conference.

Finally, Warren was also co-opted to the AAJ’s Cross-Border Discovery Working Group, and to represent the AAJ in a panel discussion with Judge Manish Shah and Professor Rick Marcus from the Federal Judges’ Civil Rules Advisory Committee, focusing on the interface between court rules on discovery and the rules of disclosure in foreign jurisdictions.
