The corporate team at Penningtons Manches Cooper has advised Oxford Flow, a designer and manufacturer of groundbreaking pressure valve technology, on the completion of its $25 million Series C funding round led by bp Ventures and Energy Impact Partners. The financing will enable Oxford Flow to scale up its operations.
Founded by Professor Thomas Povey in 2015, Oxford Flow is a spin-out of the Oxford Thermofluids Institute (OTI), which is an internationally renowned facility for aerospace solutions for jets and rockets at the University of Oxford.
The company’s technology has no mechanical drive train, stem or diaphragm, mitigating failure modes and leak paths, and helping to address some of the challenges faced by the energy sector, including improving valve reliability, reducing maintenance costs, and minimising fugitive emissions.
bp Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of bp, and has invested over $1 billion in technology companies accelerating innovation across bp’s transition growth engines. Energy Impact Partners is a global technology investor with over $4 billion assets under management investing in companies powering the energy transition.
The team advising Oxford Flow was led by corporate partner James Went with senior associate Anoushka Gangji. The wider team included IP, IT and commercial partner Chris Shelley, corporate tax partner Kathy Potter, and trainee solicitor Amelia Johnson.
Neil Poxon, CEO of Oxford Flow, commented: ‘Since our inception at the OTI at the University of Oxford, we have been all about creating solutions for the energy sector. With this recent investment we look forward to expanding our team and production capacity, and most importantly, exploring ways Oxford Flow can help the industry reduce fugitive emissions. I’d like to thank James Went and the Penningtons Manches Cooper team for their support and expertise in completing this important funding round for Oxford Flow.’
James Went, partner, said: ‘Our team at Penningtons Manches Cooper specialises in advising innovative technology companies on all aspects of their legal needs and we are delighted to continue our long-term relationship with Oxford Flow advising on their latest funding round. Oxford Flow has a great team with huge potential to help the energy sector reduce fugitive emissions - we look forward to continuing to support them as they deliver on their vision.’
