Portrait of James Berry

Profile

James is a senior associate in the Court of Protection team based in Basingstoke. His expertise is in helping those with diminished mental capacity manage their property and financial affairs. Often assisting clients who have suffered a life altering acquired brain injury, James provides support to the client and their families through the financial proceedings of a clinical negligence or personal injury claim. He also works to ensure that compensation following an award is appropriately protected and managed in accordance with the client’s needs.

In addition to dealing with the day-to-day general management of a deputyship matter, James also has a wealth of experience in applications for approval of property purchases, statutory wills, gifts and the appointment of lay deputies. Having previously practised across all areas of private client (including wills, probate, inheritance tax and lasting powers of attorney),  his broad knowledge base provides   his clients with a holistic service.

James qualified as a solicitor in 2017 and moved to Penningtons Manches Cooper from a Central London firm in September 2021. The Legal 500 have listed James as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ highlighting that 'his knowledge in his field is clear'. He has also been described by clients and fellow professionals as 'quick, efficient, friendly and on the ball'.
