Akshay is a managing associate in the shipping team in London. He is recognised for his expertise in maritime arbitration, commercial court litigation and multi-jurisdictional matters and is often praised for his hands-on approach and commitment to delivering effective solutions. Working closely with a broad range of clients, such as ship owners, charterers, ship managers, P&I clubs and brokers, he has extensive experience in dealing with multi-jurisdictional disputes and has handled a wide portfolio of litigation matters.
Akshay has travelled regularly on assignment to negotiate the successful release of vessels detained by local authorities, settle claims with charterers and oversee transhipment contracts and exercises. He regularly prepares reports and guides owners and charterers on sanctions risks as well as working closely with investigative agencies on sanctions related matters. In addition to contentious matters, Akshay also has increasing transactional experience and provides a key part of the firm’s sanctions expertise.
After starting his career with an IG Group Club, Akshay worked with another prominent maritime firm. He joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2023. His professional memberships include the British Japanese Law Association and the Indian Maritime Association UK, which has appointed him as vice chair. He has also been recognised by both Chambers UK and The Legal 500.
