Profile

Farah is an associate in the family team in Guildford. She has worked exclusively in family law since qualifying in 2018. Farah advises on the key concepts and principles of private family law, including: divorce, separation, finances, domestic abuse, injunction proceedings, and pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements as well as children, cohabitation, enforcement and variation matters. 

She is passionate about Sharia law, as well as the need to create awareness about the key differences between English and Sharia law. Farah guides clients through the process while being mindful of religion and culture, to ensure compliance with their faith, as well as English law. She is fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.

Farah has completed the Bar Transfer Test which means she can competently undertake the advisory and advocacy aspects of family law work, providing legal continuity to her clients where appropriate. She is a member of Resolution and is committed to resolving disputes in a constructive manner. Farah has previously worked with the UK’s number one Asian wedding magazine, Asiana, and written articles on the contrasts between Sharia law and English law, asset protection and pre-nuptial agreements. 

Recent work highlights

  • Representing a client who inherited significant wealth and suffered serious emotional, psychological, financial and sexual abuse in her marriage. A conduct argument was raised and the court was asked to take into account the husband’s conduct when considering a financial division.
  • Acting in highly contested financial remedy proceedings involving overseas assets, commercial properties in the UK, inheritance and allegations of financial non-disclosure.
  • Successfully representing an applicant in contested Children Act proceedings involving internal relocation.
  • Successfully acting for an applicant in Family Law Act proceedings and obtaining a non-molestation order.
  • Drafting, negotiating and finalising a pre-nuptial agreement at short notice as well as other documents such as a cohabitation agreement, separation agreement and post-nuptial agreement.
