Posted: 30/05/2022

The banking and finance team at top 50 law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper has announced the appointment of senior associate Andy Rushfirth, a highly experienced banking and finance specialist. Andy joins the firm’s rapidly growing Birmingham office.

Joining the firm from the Birmingham office of Shakespeare Martineau, Andrew is the latest addition to the rapidly growing corporate team serving the Midlands, which was established last year with the arrival of partners Adam McGiveron, Emma Bryant and Richard Wrigley.

Andy advises on a wide range of banking and finance facilities, acting for both borrowers and lenders. His lender clients include commercial banks, specialist debt funds and alternative lenders, and has he has considerable experience across a range of transactions including acquisition finance deals, real estate finance, receivables finance and general corporate banking.

His recent deals include advising a commercial bank on a £100 million receivables finance facility and acting for a property developer in relation to a multi-lender £25 million property development financing.

Penningtons Manches Cooper established its Birmingham office in 2019 as its first UK site outside of London and the South East and has successfully attracted a number of leading lawyers as it continues to grow its regional presence, including Dr. Lisa Page, an intellectual property lawyer with a focus on the life sciences sector, and Richard Wrigley, who joined the corporate team last Autumn.

Partner Adam McGiveron commented: “We’re incredibly pleased to welcome Andy to the office. He is a great fit for us, bringing with him a wealth of experience in advising borrowers and lenders on their banking and finance arrangements. He adds further depth to our national banking and finance practice but will also help us with our expansion in the Midlands market.”

As the firm takes an integrated approach to corporate advisory work, Andy will also work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm as part of the national banking and finance team. Banking and finance partner, John Chater, said: “Andy is a first-rate specialist in the field and is extremely well placed to help us further expand the practice with a dedicated resource based in Birmingham.”

Andy said: “I’m delighted to be joining such a brilliant team at this exciting time of growth for both the banking and finance team and the Birmingham office more generally. Adam, Emma and Richard have advised on a number of impressive deals for some exciting clients over the last year; I’m very much looking forward to working with them and the wider national banking and finance team.”
