Alex Fox, Partner at Penningtons Manches

Profile

Alex is a partner in our commercial dispute resolution team. He advises clients on a wide variety of substantial intellectual property and commercial disputes including those which give rise to public law and healthcare issues. Related issues on which he regularly acts include complex IT/procurement matters, financial services disputes, insolvency, professional negligence and substantial national, international and cross-border issues. Alex is also known for his reputation protection work, involving the effective handling of the most complex and sensitive matters.

As well as being a regular media commentator on news channels such as BBC News and the Today Programme, Alex has co-authored a book on corporate restructuring, published by the Law Society. He is Commission President within the Commercial Division of AIJA, has spoken and contributed to the ABA International Section (ABA-SIL), and lectures on both the domestic and international circuit.

Alex has been recognised by Chambers UK as ‘a highly skilled, knowledgeable lawyer with strong verbal and analytical skills’ and is recommended byThe Legal 500.

Recent work highlights

  • Assisting over 70 high net worth individuals, including celebrities, in a group litigation against the accountants and financial experts who advised them to invest in controversial film finance schemes.
  • Advising on critical issues relating to the restructuring of retail businesses within a UK High Street, working with brands such as Woolworths, Borders, Books etc and All Saints.
  • Providing strategic advice on a substantial trademark infringement action – Fine and Country v Okotoks (High Court and Court of Appeal).
  • Advising on worldwide injunctive relief for a substantial portfolio of global assets relating to a Russian Corporation.
  • Demonstrating public law expertise on major judicial review cases including a £4.3 billion claim relating to pensions - R v Cockburn (Court of Appeal).
