Penningtons Manches Cooper has advised GS1 UK on the appointment of Syndigo to enhance its productDNA data management and sharing service.

GS1 standards have been powering progress for more than 40 years, transforming and simplifying increasingly complex supply chains, increasing business efficiencies, and even saving lives. Whether online, in store, or in a hospital, the common language of GS1 standards is helping its community of over 58,000 organisations to uniquely identify, describe and track people, products and places globally.

Built and governed in collaboration with the UK grocery industry, productDNA was launched by GS1 UK in 2017 to provide a single catalogue of high-quality, independently verified product data underpinned by GS1 standards. In the years since its launch, productDNA has allowed over 70 per cent of UK grocery retail sector to seamlessly share product information using one common technology platform and language.

Syndigo is the first ‘active content engine’ built to power modern commerce by enabling the continual flow of data and content throughout the entire commerce ecosystem. With industry-leading data management, syndication, and analytics, combined with the largest two-sided network for content distribution, Syndigo delivers accurate information that improves decision-making and accelerates sales on every shelf.

Syndigo serves more than 12,000 manufacturers, and 1,750 retailers and distributors globally across key industries including grocery, foodservice, hardlines, home improvement/DIY, pet, health and beauty, automotive, apparel, oil and gas, and healthcare.

The corporate team advising GS1 UK on the outsourcing and collaboration agreement was led by Mona Patel, with support from employment partner Hilary Aldred and IP, IT and commercial senior associate Nora Pook.
